Welcome to ALIENetworks!
ALIENetworks LLC is a Nashville-based professional services firm providing development
and consulting services to the pharmaceutical, finance, construction and aerospace
industries. ALIENetworks specializes in standards compliance, security, and legacy
systems integration, as well as client-server application development, thin client
development, and windows native application development. We also provide consulting
and feasibility assessment services, as well as security and penetration testing, including
social engineering.
Our philosophy is Keep it Simple, and deliver quality. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Terms of Use, Privacy, etc
In line with our 'keep it simple' philosophy, we want to give you a brief summary of our legal stance
as regards your use of this website, what we consider naughty, and what we all agree is acceptable behavior
between professionals. Here's the list:
- Don't steal our software. This is how we make a living, and it's wrong. We'll litigate if we catch you doing it.
- Don't steal content. We probably won't litigate, unless you start making money with it, but it's still wrong.
- Don't get hurt browsing our website. By using our website, you agree to absolve us from all responsibility,
Acts of God, injury through misuse, blah blah, habeous corpous, blah blah, you get the idea.
- Don't include us in anything naughty, immoral, illegal, etc.
- If, God forbid, either of us ever have to lawyer up, you agree that it all goes down in Nashville, Tennessee.
That should all be fairly clear, and should cover almost everything. If, however, you want to peruse the actual
text of our Terms of Use in all their legal glory, click here
and enjoy.
We have a unique approach to technology at ALIENetworks; our business-centric, accessable, hands-on methodology
is only the beginning. There's a difference between buying technology, and buying a technology solution - we offer the latter,
and here's how we do it:
- Simple. ALIENetworks does everything on a project basis; no padded hourly development times, no
hidden charges. For larger projects, we work with you to define a series of goals to meet prior to pay points;
for smaller work, we'll deliver a proof of concept before any money changes hands, so you know what you're getting,
when you're getting it, and how much it will cost.
- People. The technology might be complicated, but the relationship doesn't have to be. At Alienetworks,
we assign projects to dedicated project leads and developers, and they remain attached throughout the life
of the project. Leads and developers are available to you for discussion of any point of your project; after
deployment, the same folks who built it are also assigned to support it - after all, who knows it better?
- Communication. The people at ALIENetworks - developers, project leaders, engineers, etc -
are engaged for their communication and people skills as much as their technical prowess. If you need to
discuss the fine points of your project with one of our developers, you can be sure they'll be erudite, knowledgeable,
personable - in short, not your typical technology geek (or, rather, not *only* a technology geek).
- The right match. ALIENetworks may not be the best solution for everyone. Delivering quality solutions
often requires an in-depth understanding of complex industry-specific business models, existing niche technologies,
arcane procedures, and other caveats that may impact development timelines and final pricing to the point
where it just doesn't make sense for an organization to engage us. For instance, if you're interested in
implementing a biometric facial expression analysis tool at your diamond mines in South Africa, we can do it,
but it'll likely be a bit pricier than a firm specializing in this type of development.
As far as what, exactly, we can build, and what we build it with, here it is:
- Enterprise Database Development and Consulting - We typically work with Microsoft SQL Server,
NCR Teradata and Oracle, but we're fairly well schooled in Progress, PostgreSQL and
some others as well. Our architecture experience includes large/enterprise implementations (Like the one at
Provisio™ Inc - the complete health histories of 70 million+ Americans managed across 230,000+ dynamic
tables) as well as high availability projects (Like BeyondROI's redirectionEngine™, handling several million hits and
database lookup's a day, bursting to hundreds per second under load). As you approach a certain (often undefined)
level of size, complexity and required performance, the number of Right Way™'s to structure a database begins
to diminish; we invite you to save a lot of time and money later by letting us share our experience in large-scale
high availability database architectures with you now!
- Internet Development - Adobe ColdFusion™, ASP, PHP, Flash - we do it all,
and we've been doing it for years. ALIENetworks was one of the original beta testers for ColdFusion™, and we've been
using it extensively ever since. Our developers are also well schooled in ASP, PHP, and Flash (including ActionScript),
and understand how to rapidly implement industry standard web features (shopping carts, secure login's, session
management, etc) as well as business-specific processes.
- Windows™ Application Development - Need a thin client? A full-blown Windows™ application? How about a
server process to field proprietary connections from a legacy process, or a ground-up driver to support your
new non-standard (But not for long) piece of hardware? We can get it done, get it done fast, and get it done right.
MS VC++, MS VB (6.0, .NET), Java, ANSI C expertise on demand!
Consulting? Services? What? Sure we do!
- Enterprise Hosting. Offered with most of our web-enabled projects, ALIENetworks offers secure hosting
through a partnership with Dolphini, a
very secure underground controlled access facility in Nashville, TN. Multiple feeds, multiple backups, multiple
generators, and multiple engineers that actually answer the phone combine to produce a hosting solution that
lets you sleep at night.
- Project Feasibility. In our primary industries of Pharmaceuticals, Finance, Aerospace and Construction,
ALIENetworks can offer insight into just how to approach your next large technology project. Hourly or daily
consulting rates are available, and we'll even leave out the sales pitch you've grown used to with other
consultants. Don't save nickels that cost dollars later by diving into a project without leveraging our experience!
- Social Engineering and Security Training. From a security standpoint, people are always your
weakest link. You can have a bulletproof network, NSA techies on staff, and servers straight off the UFO,
and it's still all for naught if one of your interns uses his band's name for his network password.
Social Engineering and Security Training is a two step process that ALIENetworks offers
that tightens and strengthens your weakest link - your people - with real world knowledge on how social
attacks are performed. The initial social engineering includes telephone, email, fax, and
other remote methods to gain access to the network, followed by actual physical access attempts (in a suit and tie,
a cable repairman's uniform, as a doctor or security officer, whatever it takes). After the social engineering assessment, if
you decide the results indicate that there's a need to be addressed, ALIENetworks will provide the training on-site,
in our standard no-nonsense straight talk style. It's a one-two combination punch that can make the difference between
real security and someone selling copies of your company AMEX on eBay.ru.
As far as technology goes, it's our passion, to be sure. It doesn't have to be a complicated mystery, however;
our engineers, project managers - basically everyone - were selected specifically because they understand technology
and they're effective communicators, passionate about what they love and where we're going, personable,
and genuinely concerned about delivering quality.
With the right partner, you can conjure your next vision into reality faster than ever before. Chatting about
technology, what you want to build, where you want to go, etc, is all good clean fun, and cheap (free!) to boot,
so please give us a call and tell us all about your vision!

JRG has worked with ALIENetworks on several projects both in the US and abroad.
These projects have ranged widely in spectrum but have all been challenging from
multiple aspects. Each time the ALIENetworks team has gone above and beyond with
respect to the technical specifications required; they completed the project in
advance of the deadline; and kept the costs on or under budget. I recommend
this firm without reservation if you are serious about results.

From: Jason Panter President, PointStake LLC
313 Colt Lane, Franklin, TN 37069
To future clients of Sean Harrison and Alienetworks:
Sean Harrison took our idea for a software application which was basically a pile of notebook
paper and transformed it into an incredibly intuitive and perfectly functional software application.
Sean did a great job with our program which is an AutoCAD module. He listened to our needs and then
expanded upon our ideas with his own creative thoughts and worked with us by using a back and forth
method of presenting a version, which we would use in the field and relate our progress back to Sean
for dialing it in. Our project was never on the back burner and even though there were challenges,
Sean worked through and delivered our project in less time than we scheduled. We continue to collaborate
and Sean is always available for consult and tweaking of the current version. He also set up avenues for marketing,
beta testing, and end user registration of the product.
I would recommend using Sean in any application that is related to the development, integration,
and application of any software on any platform. He has a great understanding of software and the
practical usage of that software to the related field for which it was created. We are satisfied
customers and got a lot of bang for our buck from Sean.
Thanks,
Jason Panter

Letter of Reference for Sean Harrison / ALIENetworks
To whom it may concern:
I have worked on multiple software projects with Sean Harrison, first as CTO of
Education Networks of America where he acted as a senior programmer, and then under
contract with his company Alien Networks.
In both cases I have found Sean's work to be of the highest caliber. He has an
ability to very rapidly understand a particular business issue and apply his
amazing prototyping skill to build a working model of the product in a very short
period of time. The breadth of his knowledge is very wide and I found him versant
in a number of software and technical areas.
I have also found that Sean has a high degree of person integrity and trust and I can rely on his word.
I would highly recommend Sean for any size project, large or small, and will be happy to
discuss my experiences with his services to anyone seeking a reference.
Sincerely,
Paul Van Hoesen

ProTrak™ is a distributed GIS-aware computing platform that provides a way for W. D. Schock Company Inc.
to manage large-scale avigation easement projects across the nation in real time. The platform manages construction and contractor information,
program costs, sub contractors, project design and management, access control, assigned personnel, contracts,
communications and filings with the FAA, permits, homeowner warrantees (deep breath here), survey company information,
environmental consulting and reporting, appraisals per property and appraisal company management, acquisition and
relocation, acquisition closings, demolitions and more.
Built on ANFrameworks 5.0 and leveraging the ANFGIS framework, the platform also brings real-time mapping directly into
the user interface while managing multiple active client connections. An unlimited number of groups, users, permissions,
projects, etc can be created and managed - even relocated homeowners can be assigned logins to view their warranty information,
construction photographs, or other documentation, and W. D Schock administrators can pull real-time reports from anywhere.
ProTrak™ was created using SQL Server 2000, VB.NET, c#, and CFML, and it all runs on a single (Though thoroughly
backed up!) server in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.

FOLDRite™ - A platform for folding paper for print production might seem like a minor technical triumph,
until you consider what saving +15% or more on recovered stock might mean to a company like Adobe or Kodak or UPS or Wal-Mart!
By calculating the most efficient materials usage strategies in real time, FOLDRite Template Master and the
FoldFactory platform can deliver this magnitude of cost savings to any organization
that delivers folded print material, from mom and pop shops delivering local flyers and inserts to global organizations
delivering printed media in countless languages. One of the common threads that ties them all together is the software
installation and registration process - all handled remotely via the 12Dark Software Registration engine. Both
Mac and Windows installations are delivered, registered and managed from the 12Dark server, and FOLDRite management
can retrieve real-time information on registrations, hacking attempts, downloads, and other user information. 12Dark
speaks standard SOAP over SSL and include an encrypted transaction protocol that eliminates replay attacks - it's ready to
drop into any application that can speak web services, and since it's self contained, it greatly reduces development
time spent implementing a secure software distribution and registration solution.
More information here: 12Dark at ALIENetworks LLC
Provisio Inc / iTrials Service Platform - Provisio Inc is changing how clinical trials are performed in the
United States; with the largest privately held database of complete individual health histories (Over 78 million
as of 09/01/09), Provisio is able to use the iTrials Service Platform to generate data-driven analytic instruments
that have never before been available. Trials populations can be isolated based on actual medical histories.
Potential trial investigators can be identified, contacted and engaged. Populations can be assessed against and
compared with census, transaction and other data from numerous sources. Trial sites can be identified and
scored based on investigator availability, geographic location, facilities and equipment, and local concentrations
of eligible trials candidates; and it's all based on a distributed computing architecture designed and built by
ALIENetworks.
ANFrameworks 4.5 and Adobe ColdFusion 8, combined with Microsoft c++ and Microsoft VB6 (and a smattering
of .NET) are combined to create a powerful, distributed system that can share query load between servers,
produce reports, perform ad hoc analysis on pools of eligible candidates, and even produce GIS-based maps
and reports based on candidate, physician, facility and trial site locations - All from one vendor - ALIENetworks LLC.

ANFrameworks 5.0, Application Development Framework for Adobe™ ColdFusion™ (CFMX, CF7.x, CF8.x)
|
ANFrameworks is an application development framework designed to implement the heavy lifting associated
with developing enterprise web applications that require a robust roles-based access control paradigm
combined with strong auditing and built-in session management. These requirements are typical of medium and large
sized web-based applications, but developers often spend weeks or months creating the processes and codebases
required to seamlessly implement these features. ANFrameworks creates these processes out of the box,
and lets developers immediately begin working on the bottom line - casting business processes into code,
instead of reinventing the wheel. ANFrameworks version 5.0 introduces an even faster roles engine,
new web services allowing integration with any external process that speaks SOAP, and an expanded API
allowing developers to get started using ANFrameworks fast!
ANFrameworks 5.0 features include:
- Not a content management system (CMS)! What successful CMS's do for content management,
ANFrameworks does for auditing, session management, controlled access and security - out of the box,
you begin with a complete, secure application framework ready for you to start adding business logic and layout.
- Includes complete Users / Groups / Permissions management interface, as well as test harness
and demonstration code.
- Clean, meticulously formatted source code.
- Scaling roles-based access control paradigm, implemented in an easy to understand Users / Groups / Permissions
paradigm; users may belong to an unlimited number of groups, each with an unlimited number of permissions.
- External access via web services to all authentication and access control functions; Use the ANFrameworks
product to provide authentication and auditing services to any application in your enterprise!
- Fast! ANFrameworks modules and templates remain in memory after running, query results are cached,
and typical response times are 5ms - 30ms under heavy load.
- Easy to install! Just drop ANFrameworks into your web application directory, plug it in by
adding a line to application (.cfm or .cfc) and onRequestEnd.cfm, and that's all there is to it - ANFrameworks
creates it's own data structures, and will dynamically determine the directory structures it lives in.
- Easy to use API - everything under ANFrameworks either runs by itself (Auditing, http pre-processing, etc) or
is accessable as a function.
- Ideal for thin client development! Nearly every ANF5 function is available via web services,
and direct access to processes such as permissions evaluation and audit trail events are also
available remotely.
- Strong support, strong history! ALIENetworks has been developing ColdFusion solutions since
Jeremy was compiling dbml.exe on his couch. As one of the very first beta testers, we've
watched CF grow and improve over the years while continually honing our own skills. With the advent
of ColdFusion™ 8 from Adobe™, ANFrameworks 5.0 represents all of our skills and experience in developing
fast, robust applications under ColdFusion. Backwards compatibility is supported wherever possible, and
ANFrameworks 5.0 enjoys the ALIENetworks product warranty: "If we built it, it works. If it ever
fails to work properly, we fix it. For free."
